PM said Singapore must be a Home where we feel a sense of belonging, and take pride in what we’ve achieved together and what we stand for. Singapore also has to be a home where people want to get married, have children and bring up the next generation.
Unfortunately, total fertility rate has been falling steadily. But PM said we cannot give up.
The National Population and Talent Division is consulting the public widely on the marriage and parenthood issue before deciding what needs to be done. The ideas the Government is looking at include better work-life balance, flexible work arrangements, priority housing for couples with young kids, paternity or shared maternity leave, defraying childhood medical expenses, better pre-school, childcare and infant care, and improving the baby bonus.
